We were fortunate to be asked back to the Larimer Lounge after playing there over a year ago and had a great time playing last night. We purposely did not try to drum up a buzz for the show since we’re trying to generate some interest outside the current (but greatly appreciated) fanbase so the crowd was pretty thin. However, Westword’s own Tom Murphy was there to review the bands after us and happened to catch our set as well. To our extreme surprise, we were included in the review, and to our even greater surprise, quite positively, and Mr. Murphy even bought a copy of Status of Brain! Needless to say it was pretty cool to see our photo in an article on Westword.com. An exerpt:
“The group’s secret weapon, though, beyond the singer’s impassioned, vein-in-forehead induced singing, was the rhythm section…overall, the Bluebird Equation was in great form as it ran through songs from its excellent new record…” - Tom Murphy, Westword, Jul 11, 2008
The. Party. Rocked. There’s really no better way to describe the show last week. The turnout was fantastic (thank you everyone!) and the bands sounded killer. Manther Orange melted faces with their classic rock shredding and the Missing DuFrenes made the entire house toe-tap to their awesome riff. Oh, and we did ok too
Our plans now are to play out a lot this summer to promote the album (which will be on iTunes for download and up here for sale soon) so look for us soon!
A superfan caught a record-breaking Tesla of the coast of the Oriental Theater in case you missed it. It really was THIS big:
Finally, after many a long months of waiting, our CD is almost complete. The venue and date have been set for the show and we are really looking forward to celebrating the release of our very first album! The show will be on MAY 22 at the ORIENTAL THEATER, thanks to our awesome pals the Missing DuFrenes who will be joining us on stage. The line up will be:
Manther Orange (8:00ish)
The Missing Dufrenes (9:00ish)
The Bluebird Equation (10:00ish)
Price will mostly likely be 5 bucks or so, and the best part is the show will be 18+ AND OVER so everyone will be able to come. Flyers are coming soon!
The band just got back from a 4 day trip to the Big Apple. No, we weren’t playing, unfortunately, but we did goof around a lot. The voyage consisted of the usual touristy stuff (Sam was the only one of us who had been before) but the highlight was creepy Coney Island on a cold, overcast day. Like a set from a horror movie, it was perhaps the eeriest thing we’ve ever experienced. In addition to exploring the scary underbelly of the city, we spent 90% of the time shooting film for our upcoming “Empire State of Mind” music video, which Sam, a film major, will edit together for us. We have some more filler shots to do, but it’s coming together nicely.
Here’s a photo of us at the historic Bowery Ballroom at Man Man’s CD release party:
Finally, this weekend will be the day we lay down our instruments, step back, and enjoy being done with recording! It is a good thing, too. As a band, we decided for some god-awful reason to participate in a grueling “February Sober Month,” which coincidentally enough coincides with our last day of laying down tracks. I think I speak for the whole band when I say we’ll all be ready for a drink.
PS - Here’s some photos from the last session. The guy you don’t recognize is Joe, our awesome engineer extraordinaire!
After months of recording, we’re coming to the home stretch. Two more songs to record and we’re off down the yellow-brick road of mixing to the emerald palace of mastering, where the wizard (his name is Joe, actually) will give the record his seal of approval. All in all the band is EXTREMELY happy with the tracks so far and we’re all pretty sure you will be too.
What’s that? You want some details about the album, you say? Well too bad, it’s a secret! Ok, I guess we can tell you the name at least. The album is entitled “Status of Brain”, but that’s all you get! The release date/CD release party is set for early May, and we’ll post details on the venue and such as it solidifies.
We’ve taken a break from all the shows we played during the summer and fall to finally and professionally record our first record. Despite the Christmasy conditions outside, we trudged eagerly to the cozy Laskin Productions studio in Littleton. The original plan was to just record KTJs drum tracks at the studio, but our engineer Joe was so awesome we’re going to finish the whole album there. And, as usual, KT nailed four songs in less than 8 takes. The first wave consists of Bird, Lucky, Empire and Peter, for those keeping track, and the rest of us guys will be filling the rest out next Sunday.
Stay tuned for some video from our next recording session!
We did it! Once again the BE and pals put on a killer Halloween show at Capsule. Our newbies the Welwater Band kicked serious first-time ass and deserve a hearty kudos for their efforts. The crew from Sudden Epidemic graced with their last show for 6 months (no!) as the Batman villains and the pain of the upcoming withdrawal was tough to bear after their power set. Right before we went on The Missing Dufrenes took it up a notch with a rock solid set as Snap Crackle and Pop and we’re so lucky to have been able to play with them. Finally, yours truly kicked in the door of your crack-house ears with out battering ram of rock with some new Nintendo covers and some old favorites. We truly hope everyone had a good time and we thank all of you so SO much for coming!
This show is on! The date is confirmed and set for October 26th. The show will start a 8:00 with the bluesy rock debut of the Welwater Band, followed by our old friends Sudden Epidemic. Next is our quirky pals from The Missing DuFrenes before we go on at 10:45ish with a two-part set. All the bands have been working extremely hard, and it’s going to be one pretty awesome show. In fact, the Welwater boys dropped by our practice space to do a dry-run and they rocked our shit. Thoroughly.
The venue is called Capsule, near 5th and Santa Fe in Denver. It’s pretty easy to find. And I can say, without a doubt, this is going to be the best fing Halloween party on the planet. It’s really in your best social interests to come, otherwise, who knows? It may literally be so awesome that if you stay home, your friends who’ll come will ostracize you forever. Think about it.
